When Poker Becomes Money Oriented
Dan Harrington would have been another guy on the street if he did not become ‘Action Dan’ as a professional poker player from Cambridge, Massachusetts who won the Main Event world championship during the 1995 World Series of Poker. Today, he is a member of the Poker Hall of Hall which is what Sam Holden is trying to replicate in this year’s WSOP championship. Harrington was a great player who won two WSOP bracelets, World Poker Tour title and was a millionaire with over six million dollars won in his poker tournament.
Dan Harrington is a different player because he was not hungry for poker fame but for the money. This was because he was a real estate and stock experts with his own company. And this was why he played a few events at the World Series of Poker and occasional at the World Poker Tour events with other poker tournaments.
Just like every great man that would not allow failure stop him from achieving his dream as a poker player, he did everything possible to win at the final table of the Main Event in 1995. He is an icon today that some poker players learn from his tactics on the table as they carve for fame and money together. There is nothing as sweet as fame in our world today which is what every poker player would play to get with the dollars flowing in after wins.
Mayfair Club was not complete in 2008 without his appearance and players like Steve Zolotow, Jay Heimowitz, Mike Shictman and Howard Lederer when NBS show organized that year’s legendary poker show. However, he finished in sixth position but his appearance was a spice to the tournament. Why is Dan Harrington an exceptional player? He is among the five poker players who have won the World Series of Poker Main Event and a World Poker Tour title making more than$6,600,000 in his poker career with $3,524,476 coming from World Series of Poker Main Event.
